Sophia Grace
Without any time to change her mind, she held her breath with thoughts of uncertainty and disbelief while she pressed the upload button. Her eyes began to batter from anxiety as she had feelings of nausea, waiting for the upload to complete. This was the longest moment of her life. It felt longer than the moment her and her family waited in the hospice lobby to hear the news about her Nonni (her Italian Grandmother). She couldn’t bare the wait. Her thoughts quickly changed into regret and discomfort. Was she making a huge mistake by giving the world an opportunity to talk more than what they already have been? She already regretted it, and wasn’t even public yet. A million thoughts ran through her head:
Will I be the laughing stock of our graduated class?
Why did I ever give him a chance?
This is entirely my moms fault, if only she weren’t so stern with her Catholic believes.
What if they don’t believe in my ability to take on this obstacle?
Wait, am I really grown up enough this handle this?

She couldn’t stop thinking of all the negative outcomes this single picture could bring. Apparently the emotional stage wasn’t over just yet. The tears were about to start rolling down her face by the gallons, until she noticed that it wasn’t a question as to if she should upload the picture or not. Instagram flashed back to the main scroll page, now the world would decide how they addressed the picture they would soon see. The picture was officially uploaded onto social media; she knew others were free to harshly criticize her as they pleased. While some would stare at the image in disbelief, others would finally get a glimpse of truth and realize the rumors weren’t just fraudulent gossip. She couldn’t hide her secret any longer.
The picture of Sophia Grace lit the screen of her IPhone. Although this was the most courageous thing she had done since she found out, she came to the conclusion that she needed to get used to it. She needed to finally stop keeping it “hush hush” and make it public. She was ready to share the fact that she’s a mother. She was a mother to a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Thinking back she couldn’t thank God enough that Soph was healthy, considering the doctors scared the living shit out of her during the entire pregnancy. As if she wasn’t already stressed enough, each and every doctor told her that she would be too tiny and would more than likely have serious health issues. Victoria knew 5 pounds 2 ounces was small but she couldn’t imagine her little 5’1 petite body giving birth to any other size baby. Victoria though about Sophia: her jet-black hair, her miniature hamster sized fingers, her clothes that all were 3 sizes too big. All and all she was absolutely perfect.
Victoria didn’t want mean rumors going around about her being a slut, or worse an unfit young mom. The more she thought about it, she came to the conclusion that she shouldn’t care so much about what others thought. Obviously having a baby has changed her life forever but it didn’t mean it had to ruin it. Yes she felt physically uncomfortable while she was pregnant, but she also felt shame when old women would stare at her in public. Their obvious whispers and judgmental looks from others made her journey through the pregnancy hard. It was so hard to stay positive when everyone was criticizing you for “doing IT” before marriage. When in reality they all were doing it too, they just didn’t happen to have the misfortune of getting knocked up like her. She really had to push herself to get ready and leave the house. What was the point of going out if only negative and discouraging thought would come from it?
Embarrassment was a huge factor she struggled with throughout the past nine months, but now that Sophia was here she wanted to embrace it. She loved her unconditionally and have never laid eyes on something so beautiful! It felt as if her belly gave her guilt, but a baby brought her pride. Something to live for and push her to finish college and make a life for herself. Sophia was a blessing upon her and a savior. Sophia Grace made her want to be a better person and accomplish things to assure she would have a proper upbringing. Sophia was the true love of her life.
This picture on social media made her so vulnerable but Sophia was the center of her life now. Victoria started feeling excited for what the future would hold. As she saw all the people liking her picture, she happy with her decision to upload the picture. She adored Sophia Grace and was happy the world could now meet her sweet face.
